Client: Circle Management Athletic Facility in Totowa, NJ.

Challenge: This newly built facility needed fresh outdoor air to meet code requirements and had indoor air quality (IAQ) issues caused by the athletes’ vigorous training. Steve Opremcak, president of Circle Management, LLC, was seeking high-efficiency ventilation equipment that would provide adequate energy savings while improving the overall IAQ of the facility.

Solution: Haglid Engineering was chosen to design a solution for the facility’s challenging ventilation issue. Four BPE-XE-MIR-2000 units (two stand-alone and two tied to existing HVAC systems) were installed on the roof of the building. Using high-efficiency fans, the modules provided fresh air at a highly efficient energy recovery rate—greater than 30 for cooling and 70 for heating. Haglid Engineering collaborated with the New Jersey SmartStart Buildings program to obtain state incentives for the project. Energy savings resulted in a payback of 2.5 years and an energy-efficient facility with comfortable IAQ.

Andrew from TNT Heating and Cooling was asked to save energy, improve comfort, and enhance IAQ (Indoor Air Quality). He chose BPE Modules because they provide all these solutions simultaneously at a cost-effective price. Andrew stated, “The BPE units were light enough to install without a crane and saved on installation costs.” He was pleased with the way the BPE-XE-MIR-2000 units preconditioned the outside air while improving IAQ and reducing operating costs.
