Client: Manitoba Hydroelectric in Manitoba, Canada

Challenge: Manitoba Hydroelectric, Manitoba’s lead energy utility, purchased a BPE ERV for the purposes of instrumenting and evaluating the need for fresh outdoor air in below freezing conditions in an area of Northern Canada.

Solution: A BPE-XE-MIR 2000 was run at 745.3 cfm of air flow and evaluated in a fully-instrumented test bed and found to have exceptional performance of over 82%. It can be noted that the BPE Energy Recovery Module could bring in the 13.16-degree F fresh outdoor air at 63.69 degrees F, getting within a few degrees of room temperature. Thermal shock and discomfort are eliminated and ASHRAE Standard 55 is met without additional heat along with saving 82.5 % of the energy in the exhaust air.
